Barry Schwartz Anthurium magnificum Hybrid

A beautiful collector Anthurium from renowned hybridizer Barry Schwartz, selected for its classic velvety foliage and strong, elegant form. This juvenile specimen is already showing a broad, elongated cordate leaf with a deep green, subtly velvety surface and contrasting green venation.

As the plant matures, expect the foliage to become substantially larger and more dramatic, with the mature characteristics of the hybrid becoming increasingly apparent. Barry Schwartz hybrids are particularly interesting to collectors because of his long history of Anthurium breeding and the diversity found among individual seedlings.

Specialist care (sourced). A. magnificum (Logee’s; Root Houseplants): bright shade, 18–29°C, 70–80% humidity preferred; allow the top 2–3" of a chunky mix (coco coir, perlite, orchid bark, worm castings) to dry, then drench; feed every other watering in the growing season. Diagnostic trait: four-angled (winged) petioles. Habitat-derived (INFERRED): Kew/POWO records it from the Colombian Andes (Risaralda, Cundinamarca, Boyacá; Río Magdalena basin) at 800–2,125 m, terrestrial or epiphytic — the broadest elevation band of the velvet species, making it the most temperature-flexible of the group; it appreciates a day–night temperature drop and cloud-forest humidity at the upper end of its range. Give it room: mature plants are large.
