Anthurium antolakii ‘BVEP’ × papillilaminum ‘Fort Sherman’
A collector Anthurium produced here at MonsteraEtc from two exceptional Panamanian bloodlines: Anthurium antolakii, historically known in cultivation as BVEP (Black Velvet Eastern Panama), crossed with Anthurium papillilaminum ‘Fort Sherman.’
This plant was produced from mother plants in my own collection. My BVEP/antolakii parent was originally acquired from Tezula Plants, while my papillilaminum ‘Fort Sherman’ parent was acquired from Good Plant Nice Pot and traces directly to Jay Vannini. Both parent plants are maintained in the MonsteraEtc collection, providing documented provenance for this cross.
This juvenile is already developing attractive velvety foliage with an elongated cordate form. As it matures, its phenotype will continue to develop, with the potential for darker velvet foliage and increasingly prominent characteristics inherited from both parents.
As a seed-grown hybrid, each plant is genetically unique; mature leaf shape, coloration, venation, and texture may vary between individual seedlings.

Specialist care (sourced). A. antolakii (Granthuriums, specialist breeder): grows like an average velvet anthurium; ~300 foot-candles for mature plants, 150–200 for seedlings; happy at 78–83°F day peaks; EVILution Exotics rates ease of care 8/10. Papillilaminum “Fort Sherman” (Soiled; GrowTropicals): 21–32°C, below 16°C is risky; 60–80% humidity; chunky bark/perlite/charcoal/sphagnum mix; distilled/RO water. “Fort Sherman” is a wild-collected canal ecotype gathered in the 1980s by Jay Vannini near the former Fort Sherman army base, Colón Province, Panama — elongated narrow velvety leaves with golden-to-reddish veins. Habitat-derived (INFERRED): A. antolakii is an eastern Panama species (“BVEP” = Black Velvet Eastern Panama, the pre-publication trade name; now formally described and named for Rory Antolak). Exact habitat data is thin — treat as a warm, humid lowland-to-premontane grower with 70°F+ nights and no chill tolerance, consistent with the specialist care above.
